  1. Worried Mom

How can I find out what my son’s release date will be. I know he is getting 2 for 1 on some days and 3 for 1 on others. The deputy’s are schmucks and will not provide him the information. If they don’t know, they should just tell him “I don’t know” instead of being…well….schmucks. Their job description surely includes providing inmates with information. Right?

    • admin

Your son needs to get an “inmate request for information” form. He can get one from his unit officer. It has several options you can request information on. He needs to fill out the request then turn it back in to the unit officer. Requests are picked up then taken to the sergeant’s office. Someone in that office will get his requested information. I have been informed that the unit officers do not have access to the system that has release dates. Your son can find information on how to do things in the Inmate Handbook. There are probably some in the day room.

  2. Poor concerned Mom

Why is everything so expensive and why is it so hard to feed the men in custody enough so they don’t feel like they are starying I mean 6 meals of bologna on the weekends is crazy you try it and if they try to buy a 15 cent roman soup it cost them like 75 cents why such a mark up. I know things are expensive but when I come to visit and see people stuffing their face and I know he hasen’t eaten it kills me sometimes he says he only got 1/2 a sandwitch of bread and bologna.

    • admin

Concerned Mom – This site is not connected to the Bexar County Jail in any way. It is a private site. Even though we are not connected to the jail we have a lot of knowledge regarding their procedures. We have to, to be able to write the posts. As far as the price of food, you’re right the prices are high but they are luxuries. Everything an inmate actually needs is supplied. The Jail has to meet certain standards set by Texas Jail Standards. At no time is an inmate ever given only half a bologna sandwich. Your son is being fed. I’m sorry but I suspect your emotions are being played.

  3. Concerned big Sis

My little brother is locked up at the Bexar county jail. He’s been there for 6 mos and was told in court that they will grant his release. However after the court date and many days of hearing nothing I called and was told that he had a DPS hold. Can anyone explain this to me as far as what needs to be done to get the hold lifted. A friend of mine told me it’s got something to do with house arrest and that he wouldn’t be released until we buy a monitor and some other things. When I call the numbers that they gave me I’m getting no answers or the person that answers has no idea about what I’m talking about. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

    • admin

Big Sis – The first thing you need to do is find out if your brother actually does have a hold. He probably does but you want to be sure and you want to know what kind of hold it is. Call Central Records at 210-335-6201 to ask them about it. You will need either his sid number or his name and date of birth. If he was released on the condition that he have an electronic monitor or an ignition interlock then the device will have to be obtained before he gets released. If he was approved for release in Bexar County but has a warrant from another county he will either have to post the bond for that warrant or if no bond is allowed he will be transferred to that county for processing.

  4. Irishrose

My grandson, while passing thru on a family vacation was charged with something, put in jail for the night and bonded out next day. Charged with several misdemeanors, he paid them from his home town 600 miles away. Then he was beat up by a bunch of men in his hometown and falsely accused. He was arrested, the three men who beat him up were let go.

He was jailed and not released for six weeks because we were told Bexar county added MORE charges and had a hold on him except they said they did not and didn’t want anything to do with him until the case he was in jail for was completely finished. So we paid to bail him out but instead, Bexar C, at the last minute came and extradicted him back to Bexar county anyway with further charges, this time felonies.

I spent probably 15 hours on the phone and everyone gives you a different answer. Why did Bexar county lie and say they weren’t interested in extradicting him until we posted bond and then they came and grabbed him? I am thoroughly confused.

Now what will happen to him? We don’t even know. It’s like he is lost in the system. Part of the time, we don’t even know where he is at. He is only 21 and recently had a severe injury he was still under treatment for and he has not even seen a Dr. since this all started.

    Thank you for any explanation.

Irishrose – We are not the Bexar County Jail. We are a private website that tries to help people navigate through the confusing confinement system. One of the confusing parts is that the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is rather big so different departments do different things. So many types of different things are being done that sometimes it’s hard to figure out who does what. Even the employees have trouble knowing for sure.

We have no way of knowing what happened regarding your grandson’s extradition. What we can say is that the jail allows people from the University Hospital System to have space within the jail to deal with all medical problems. That is one of the best teaching systems in the state. I’m not sure where you got the information that he has not been able to see a doctor but I would bet he has at the very least seen an RN and that his medical information from the jail that had him before was brought with him and has been reviewed by a doctor. It’s a matter of liability.

You can call Central Records at 210-35-6201 to find out what he is being held on and what the bonds, if any, he has. They are open 24/7.

    • admin

Elsa – Three for one is not guaranteed. It can be taken away at any time. That normally happens if the inmate gets into trouble. If the release date is listed in their computer they can tell you. Call Central Records at 210-335-6201.

    • admin

Elsa – We’re not real sure about this. We think this may be coordinated out of the Classification section but that section is not open to public phone calls. I suggest you call the Work Release department to see if they can help you. That number is 210-335-6384.

  5. Confused Wife

I Need To Know How I Put Money On My Phone , I Don’t Know How And I Wanna Know How I Can Go See Him And How I Can Go About Putting Money On His Books

    • admin

Confused Wife – You don’t put money on your phone, you put it into an account with the company that handles the phone calls for inmates. That company is ICSolutions. You can find information on them in our category “Inmate Phone Calls”. Once there click on the ICSolutions link. To see him you will have to be on his visitation list. You will also have to go on his visitation days. Call Central Records at 210-335-6201 to find out what his visitation days are. There are several ways to put money in his commissary. Go to the category “Money For Commissary” on this site. The different ways to deposit money are listed there.

  6. not an animal

I have had the misfortune of being a guest at B.C.A.D.C a number of times. And i have read the comments and questions on this board. Now i dont know who is answering these questions but ya’ll obviously have visited yourself.Yes the food is horrible and is barely enough to sustain life. And when Poor concened Mom said her son was starving, she was correct. And for ya’ll to say her son was playing to her emotions is completely out of line. If you dont make commisary while your in jail,u will be hungry ALL THE TIME!!! And yes commisary is a luxury, but our should not have to go broke trying to provide for us. Of course we put ourselves there but we still have people who care about us; we are not animals nor should we be treated such!! We are already suffering enough being in jail away from our familys and friends. We do not deserve to be further punished more by some over zealous dentention officer. We are human beings and the majority of the time those who work at the jail would not even be able to recognize us if they held the door for us at Tetco. So stop patronizing inmates and their familys with false info and inexcusable behavior.Thank you!!

    • admin

Not an animal – The jail is required to meet certain criteria in practically every aspect of an inmate’s incarceration. Sufficient food is one of them. Is it excessive? No. People tend to look for something to eat when they are bored. It can get pretty boring at the jail. Just because someone is thinking about food does not mean they are actually starving. There are a group of us who respond on this website. All of us have helped people who had relatives or friends incarcerated. We have seen some of the things a jailed family member is willing to do to their family. As far as recognizing you the jail has a 48 to 1 ratio of inmates to jailers. The inmates constantly change, the jailers, not so much. Do you really think they CAN remember every single one? It’s nothing personal against you. All that aside, you’re welcome to your opinion.

  7. wife

Hi i was told by my husband that they told him if we pay a bail bound for his other case that they will transfer him to work released for hos childsupport.. But its been 5 days already since the day i payed the bond for the other case.. Does anyone know why its taking so long for him to be put into work released? I was told it usually takes two days?? Will they still put him in work released? Is there anything i can do?

    • admin

Wife – Call Central Records at 210-335-6201. Ask if your husband has a hold of any kind. If he does not, then ask to be transferred to the Front Desk officers to see if they are able look up his information to see what the problem is. It’s better if you do this when visitation is not on. They’re real busy during visitation. They let the phones ring forever.

  8. adam

I have to report to the work release program for the weekends and i have no way to get there this weekend will they penalize for me for not showing up or do i have to call and let them know? I just don’t wanna get into any more trouble than I already am, what am supposed to do?

    • admin

Adam – It would be a big mistake to not show up. Contact work release to let them know your situation and to see if there are any options they have for you.

  9. darsey

my son is in bexar county jail i was told he will be tranfered to state jail dominquies? unit i asked if he keeps his sid number to locate him they told me it changes …my goal is to find out the address where he’s being transfered to i live outta state so ide like to write him how do i find all these answers? new sid#, address of state jail?(there are many of them). HELP mother desperate to stay in touch with son. thank you and Merry Christmas

    • admin

Darsey – Yes, it’s a confusing system. Not all agencies use the term “sid” number however TDCJ does. Dominguez is a State Jail so they use that same terminology but they have their own numbers. Basically, it’s a system identification number. Dominguez State Jail is located at 6535 Cagnon Rd, San Antonio, TX 78252. You will still need your son’s sid number to put on the outside of the envelope. The phone number they have listed on the internet is (210) 675-6620.

    • admin

Dodgeram – Work release is determined by a judge. You need to contact your husband’s attorney to see if anything can be done. The current time is running 2 for 1.

    • admin

Shaina – No messages, other than death in family, are given to inmates. You will need to write to him letting him know that you have set up an account so he can call.

  10. amanda

My boyfriend is in the annex. They are telling him that he has money but yet when he goes to try to order something from commissary they say he does not exist. But when the guard looks up his name it shows he has money. Today they took out 15.00 dollars for medical. Why is it that medical finds him but not commissary?

  11. lida

I know my husband will get a court appointed attorney. He is in Bexar county now and court next month I wanted to speak to his lawyer they have for him how do I find out how to contact the attorney?

    • admin

Lida – Call the court that his case got assigned to. They should be able to tell you which attorney was assigned to him. If you do not know what court he’s in call Central Records at 210-335-6201. They can tell you.

    • admin

Cassy – Work release must be approved by the judge. If the conditions of his sentence say he gets work release then he gets it. If not, then he doesn’t.

  12. mother of17

My son was arrested in school but the school did not transfer the records to explain that my son had learning disabilities or medication how can I let them know? Next, I have called to try to figure out who his court appointed lawyer is?

    • admin

Mother – How old is your son? If he is younger than 17 then he will be in Juvenile. You would have to contact them. If he is 17 or older than he would be at the Bexar County jail. You can call the Medical area at 210-335-6260 or 6167 to let them know his history.

  13. Amanda

My son was arrested for a misdemeanor charge over the weekend and is now in Bexar County Jail. We won’t be bailing him out so we were told that he could sit in jail, waiting to see a judge for a couple months. I believe the law requires him to be seen within 60 days. Do you have any idea if it normally takes the whole 60 days to get in front of a judge? Thanks!

    • admin

Amanda – The amount of time to be seen before a judge depends on the level of the charge, felony or misdemeanor, but those are the outside amounts. They usually get seen way before then.

  14. Worried big sis

I have a little brother that was arrested for slapping his girlfriend and leaving the scene when she called the cops at my moms house. I want to know what I can do, I know it was wrong but he caught her on the phone with another guy (cheating). They been living together for 4 years and this girl takes advantage of him. He is a good father and a good husband but he got mad which it made him loose control. Now she is bipolar she doesn’t take her meds, she treats my brothers previous relationship first kids bad. She screams at them and tries to manipulate my brother so he won’t pick them up. When my brother picks them up she threatens to leave him, my brother has 2 other kids with first wife, first wife cheated on him and left him. I want to know what I can do for him, if anything.

    • admin

Worried Big Sis – If you mean helping him by somehow getting this all to go away then, no, there isn’t anything you can do. His best bet is to get a good attorney.

  15. Ruby

My Boyfriend Called Me From A Police Station , And They Said He Needed To Hang Up Already That It Was Time To Go . That Was At 12:20 pm . I Just Called Them And They Said He Ain’t In Jail . So How Would I Know If He Is There Or Not ? How Long Does It Take To Be Put Into The system ? This Is His First offense

    • admin

Ruby – Depends on where he is. If he’s at the Magistrates then he still needs to go to the jail. If he’s already at the jail it depends on how busy they are.

  16. Deborah

My husbands bond has been paid. Who do I call to find out when he will be released? He has no money yo call me nor shoes to wear.

  17. Irma

My son went to court already and they reinstated him.this was yesterday the 15 attorney said itll be like to 5 -6 hours to get release .he hasnt been released. Wondering whats going on.do you have a number where we can call to find out about our son release .

    • admin

Irma – The release time depends on when the jail gets the paperwork from the courthouse and how busy they are. You can call Central Records at 210-335-6201 to see if they have anything showing on their screen.

  18. Kathleen

I’m trying to each the TDCJ coordinator to determine when my boyfriends file will go to TDCJ. The number i have is 335-6294. I get a very generic voicemail for the department, but no one calls back. It’s been 2 weeks. Is there another number i could call that might have this info?

    • admin

Kathleen – I encourage anyone who is having a problem contacting people to complain to the Sheriff’s office. Unfortunately there sure seem to be a lot more complaints under this sheriff than there used to be. Contact Sheriff Pamerleau’s office at 210-335-6010.

    • admin

Marie – There are various ways it works. It all depends on the judge and what type of job the individual has. The inmate may work 8 – 5, Monday through Friday. In that case the judge may require that he report to the jail on weekends until he has served out his time. But it would be different if someone had a job that required them to be there from 2pm until 10pm, Friday through Tuesday. The intent is to not place the individual in a position where he/she will lose their job.

  19. Amanda

I am trying to find out about my brothers commissary he ordered it tuesday the 16th at the annex n then was moved to the mail jail up until now he has not recieved anything is there someone I can call to see whats going on with his order??

    • admin

Amanda – The person that was supposed to receive the package needs to file a grievance if he did not get it. The paperwork is in the living area. You can try calling the Banking department at 210-335-6287. We were told they are not supposed to give out that information but several commenters have said they will.

  20. Yesica

My boyfriend is in jail his father just pass away how could he attend the funeral. Please help funeral is tomorrow he is due to get out on the 8th

  21. Dana

I need help in finding out who to call and speak with on getting my boyfriend in protective custody. Hes been charged with a crime by his ex wife and the charge is so frrakin unbelievable to read or even say. Everyones innocen till proven guilty. But not understood . I dont want him treated the ways he is being now and it makes me sick to my stach for him to say he would rather die than be labeled this and treated the way he is. Plz help

    • admin

Dana – The only place for him to be put is administrative segregation (ad seg). That is basically a lock down situation. That means he will only be allowed out of his cell for one hour a day. During that one hour he can make a call, take his shower and walk around in the day room. You can’t just request ad seg. He has to be in danger and it’s up to him to tell his living unit officer that he is being threatened.

  22. Linda

My son has mental problems as well as addictions. The mental issues cause him to imagine and overreact to things – for example, he had a chest xray and now believes that the xray showed parasites in his lungs and heart. This is frightening and depressing to him. Can the doctor provide him with an appt to mental health?

    • admin

Rachel – A determination is made by the parole board to have a hearing which can result in the person being freed or sent back to prison or they can just decide from the facts that they don’t think it is a serious infraction and allow the individual to continue on probation.

  23. Dorothy

My son is jailed waiting for a court date. he is bio-polar and on daily meds, how do I get these to him, I worry that he may go off if not medicated thus causing him more jail time. please advise.

  24. Karen

I am trying to get a hold of my brother. Are they allow to talk on the phone? If so how can I talk to him? He does not know that I am trying to contact him. I haven’t spoken to him for about 16 years. I found out he is in jail.

    • admin

Karen – Inmates can make calls, not receive them. You will need to set up an ICSolutions account then write to him giving him your phone number.

  25. maria

Also what are work release inmate hours from what hours of the dYnamic…

    • admin

Alex – They can get visits as long as the visits land on their normal visitation days. They do not get free phone calls and their hours are determined by the court. The hours are usually set up to accommodate the hours the person normally works at his/her place of employment.

  29. Peggy

    • admin

Who is there I can call or talk to on why they moved him. I was gunna visit him but another lady there told me I’d be lucky if I get out in 5 hours! Is this true? He’s on the second floor.

    • admin

Maria – They periodically shift inmates for various reasons. We have no way of knowing why they moved your husband. And yes, it does take a long time to get a visit but we’re not sure it’s five hours. Can any other readers let us know how long they had to wait?

  32. Cindy
