The situation is still not ideal but it has improved.  The parking garage is located at 127 North Comal Street.  The entrance to the garage is on West Commerce.  Commerce Street at that section is a one way street heading westbound.  They will take Visa, MasterCard, Discover and cash.

A lot of people attempt to park under the bridge to avoid paying the parking rates.  Be very careful when attempting to park there especially after a rain.  There are very deep holes in the ground that can be completely covered by water making it difficult to see how deep the holes actually are.  Many people park in the residential blocks and walk over to the jail

There are parking spaces in front of the jail but those are designated for Bexar County Sheriff’s Office personnel.  Practically all lots are either designated as employee only parking or have most of the slots marked as reserved parking.  The Sheriff’s Office can have a car towed if it is parked in a restricted area but usually they will make an announcement over their intercom first.

If you don’t want to fool with the parking situation you can always take the bus.  There is a bus stop on Martin street at the intersection with Comal.

Please be aware that you will get a ticket if you park in the lot where you visit the inmates. I made the mistake of parking thinking it was alright after hours. I receive a ticket. It is going to cost me $150. You may get away with it a time or two but it isn’t worth the risk.
