Update – Two Deputies being Charged in Drowning Deaths

On September 18th, during the evacuations before Hurricane Florence hit, two Horry County deputies were transporting two women.  The were caught up in flood waters which resulted in the death of the two women.  We wrote a post about the incident in September.  You can click on the link to see our post and to see the doubts we had about what had happened.

It turns out our doubts were justified.  Deputies Stephen Flood and Joshua Bishop are being charged in the deaths of Wendy Newton and Nicolette Green.  Deputy Flood, the driver, made the decision to drive around the barricades.  He is being charged with reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter.  Deputy Bishop is being charged with involuntary manslaughter.

When the flood waters overtook the vehicle the two deputies climbed on top leaving the women trapped inside to drown.  Due to the severe weather conditions it was 24 hours later before the bodies could be recovered.  The Horry County Sheriff’s Office of South Carolina, terminated the two deputies in October of 2018.
