Texas Officer Arrested for Child Pornography

Yesterday, Joel Alex Sandate, an officer with the Primera Police Department, was arrested for Possession or Promotion of Child Pornography and Invasive Visual Recording. As usual, the news article is short on details. Officer Sandate installed a hidden camera in a 14 year old’s bedroom. No information is given on what connection he had with the child or why he had access to the room. Nor was any job related information given, such as how long he had been employed with the Primera Police Department or what his duties were.

Officer Sandate was able to obtain images of the child. We can only speculate that he told someone or showed the pictures to someone because a tip about what he had done was passed to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office Special Investigations Unit. Officer Sandate was given a $75,000 bond and booked into the Carrizales Detention Center. See ValleyCentral.com article here.

Another Officer Secretly Video Recording Children

I have to admit that I was a little confused when I first read this article. I thought an old story had come up in my search. It seemed so familiar. I had to check the date to make sure it was current. It is a new story. The one I was mixing it up with was another Texas officer who hid recording equipment in a young child’s room. That incident happened in February and involved Corporal Ricardo Aleman with the Schertz Police Department. You can read the article on Aleman here.
