Domestic Violence a Huge Problem with Officers

On Friday the 17th, San Antonio Police Officer Austin Wilke was arrested by Bexar County deputies for Assault Bodily Injury-Married. Wilke, who has only been with SAPD for three years, pushed his spouse to the floor which resulted in scraped knees and a cut forearm. Neither MySanAntonio.com nor KSAT say who made the disturbance call that had deputies arriving at the location before 5:00 am Friday morning.

Officer Wilke was arrested and booked by deputies. He was given a $3,000 bond. The news articles don’t say but we have to figure that he was able to post his bond to get out of jail. The San Antonio Police Department will place Austin Wilke on administrative leave.

Wide-Spread Problem

While officers do have higher rates of violence against their spouses than the general public, it is still a wide-spread problem. Domestic violence has no boundaries. It touches rich and poor, educated and uneducated, religious and non-religious. And though the majority of people who are battered are women, there are men who are battered too. We want to remind individuals in need of help that there are people you can turn to.
