Bexar County Inmate Found Dead in Cell

Jack Michael Ule, an inmate at the Bexar County jail, was found dead in his cell on Thursday morning.  Mr. Ule was in jail for criminal trespassing.  That charge has a $500 bond amount.  Ule was found on the floor of his cell.  The medical staff at the jail attempted to revive Mr. Ule but were unable to.  Though the death will be investigated it is believed that Mr. Ule died due to health reasons.

For the first time that we’ve noticed Sheriff Javier Salazar gave a statement saying that people with mental illnesses and those who can’t afford to pay their bonds, shouldn’t be in jail.  This is a stance that this publication has been pushing for quite a while.

While we appreciate the Sheriff making this statement we have to wonder about the timing of it.  He’s in his third year.  Where was this concern before?  All he’s done is rage about how tough he is on crime yet his leadership is the worst we’ve seen in decades.  So why the sudden change?  Could it have something to do with the primaries being right around the corner?  Perhaps he thinks, at this late date, he can change his image?  This publication will not allow him to varnish over his poor abilities as a leader which have severely damaged the reputation of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
