UPDATE Food Gift Packages – iCare

UPDATE.  Aramark is no longer the vendor for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.  Keefe will be the new vendor.  As soon as we have information we will post it.

The Sheriff’s Office is trying a new program that allows families to purchase meals and gift baskets for inmates.  According to Sheriff Ortiz, inmates will only be allowed to get these meals 2 – 3 times a week and it is a privilege that can be taken away.  This encourages inmates to follow the Jail regulations so that they don’t lose their ability to receive these packages.  It also allows the family to do something special for an inmate.  The inmate’s family and friends can show they are thinking of him on his birthday, holidays, special occasions or can send something just to show they care.

The program has two financial benefits for the jail.  The first is that they make .29 cents on each dollar and the second is that they save money by not having to provide a meal.

To use this program go to:  iCare

You will need the inmates sid number before you get started.

Be sure to read the information including the Terms & Conditions.  There are several things you will want to know like credit card payments taking up to 24 hours to process, that there is a no refund policy, medical diet problems and more.

If you need to contact their customer service department you can reach them at 1-877-615-3296, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm CST.

i need to know what i can give to them

  • admin  On September 27, 2010 at 3:12 am

Lisa, see the link that says iCare in this post? It’s underlined and right above the one that says sid number. Click on that link. It will take you to a page that has three boxes with red outline. Click on the first box, it says “iCare Gift Services”. This will take you to another page. On this page you can either click on the iCare Gift Services box that looks just like the last one you clicked on, you can click on the “view all products” right under that box or you can click on the part that says “1-iCare Packages”. All three places will take you to the products that you can purchase.

How soon will the inmate receive the gift once purchased?

    • admin  On March 10, 2011 at 7:14 am

I haven’t been able to find the exact time schedule but on the iCare site I did find the following statement.

      “Delivery Days:

Monday through Friday. Any order received/purchased after 9:00 AM on Friday will not be delivered until Tuesday.”

If you discount the weekend you have buying before 9:00 am on Friday, nothing on Monday, Receiving the gift on Tuesday. I would have to say it takes at least two days to receive a basket.

  • Michelle  On May 18, 2011 at 2:16 pm

how many baskets can they receive a week can you send a hygiene one and a meal basket durning the same week

    • admin  On May 23, 2011 at 5:45 am

At this time there is no limit on the number of iCare baskets that an inmate can receive.

  • John  On June 13, 2011 at 9:04 pm

Just a mention about the “birthday” iCare package.

The birthday card that my daughter was to receive said “ON YOUR BIRTHDAY” on the front and nothing (it was blank) inside. There’s no way to put a message inside, I know–but it would seem like someone doing the purchasing would’ve found a card that could’ve expressed sentiments about being apart but not being forgotten. If someone from Aramark reads this and has a heart, please take a hint, invest a few cents more in your already-obscenely profitable packages and supply a decent card for the family buying one.

The lemonade was a six-ounce package of fine white powder branded “Maxima.” The tea was a six-ounce package branded “Hometown” (makes two quarts). No scoops or measuring device was supplied. The chips (fresh-ish!) to be delivered were dated to be used by July 26 this year; I’m writing this on June 13th (it was supposed to be delivered June 10th and wasn’t). The salsa, two “mild” containers, would expire April 13th of NEXT year. Everything seemed to be junky-sugary (like the bags of Jolly Ranchers), but I’m sure that’s welcome to incarcerated folks.

I received this bag before my daughter did because she was transferred to another facility and I had to pick up the bag. Aramark does not refund unless it’s been given permission/authorization by the jail, and the commissary chief told me to pick up the large clear plastic bag. Aramark absolves itself of responsibility about delivery, saying it’s up to the jail, and I understand that, but I wish Aramark would wait till the package is delivered before charging the account. I would’ve never known her gift bag hadn’t been delivered unless I’d checked the account for the “pending” label six days after the order (FOUR business days).

Still: shame on you, Aramark, for the inadequate and coldness of the birthday card. Use some sense–and some cents.

im trying to send a meal (breafast getaway) can you help me find how to do that?

    • admin  On July 7, 2011 at 5:08 am

Click on the iCare link shown in the post. It’s in blue at approximately the middle of the Food Gift Packages information page. On the page that opens up in the upper left hand corner there is a section in red that says “create account/login”. You will start there then just follow the prompts.

  • Naomi  On August 1, 2011 at 1:18 pm

I am completely new to this, and I’m trying to purchase more than one thing for my boyfriend. It is saying that I have exceeded the amount on my cart list and I’ve only picked one at the price of 40.99…am I only allowed to purchase one thing per day, per week-or can I purchase one thing at a time, then sign out and purchase again- whats the deal on this thing?

    • admin  On August 2, 2011 at 4:36 am

Naomi – Our understanding is that there is not a limit at this time but that’s according to the jail. Aramark may have their own limits. Try contacting the Customer Service department for the iCare program at 1-877-615-3296, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm CST. They should be able to give you a better answer.

  • Robyn  On November 7, 2012 at 12:15 am

is there a way to send toilet paper I could not find it in ICARE

    • admin  On November 12, 2012 at 5:24 am

Robyn – I don’t believe toilet paper is included in any of the iCare packages. Toilet paper is supplied for inmates by the Bexar County Jail.

  • theresa  On November 24, 2012 at 5:57 pm

does medication/ prescription( high bleed pressure. etc) get payed is it out of commissary.

    • admin  On December 5, 2012 at 9:32 am

Theresa – Medical services are handled by the University Health System. There is not a charge for the medications. Some specialized procedures, like dental work, can have a fee but it is usually very reasonable.

  • ed  On November 24, 2012 at 10:58 pm

can one purchase items to go to an inmate. or is that something an inmate must do?

    • admin  On December 5, 2012 at 8:54 am

Ed – You can buy some packages from the iCare program and have them delivered to the inmate. Other things can be purchased through commissary, that the inmate must do.

  • Krystal  On April 17, 2013 at 9:55 pm

Do we have to go through the iCare website? Or are we also allowed to make our own care packages and bring them in (of course checked out by the guards first)? If so, what’s a list of things that are okay or not okay to include? I’m also trying to figure out if we can write letters to the inmates, if so, what address do we use, etc etc?
    -Thanks for your time.

    • admin  On April 22, 2013 at 1:21 am

Krystal – Sorry, you can’t bring your own care packages. You will have to use iCare.

  • Rebecca  On July 3, 2013 at 4:25 pm

My baby bro is in bexar county jail I ordered him a burger today is ther a cut off time before its too late for the day or do they even get it the same day

    • admin  On July 13, 2013 at 6:14 pm

Rebecca – They do not get it immediately. Go back to the iCare website. Read the terms they have listed. They give a lot of good information.

  • Diego  On July 7, 2013 at 8:18 am

How many care packages can an inmate receive a week? I sent my brother 2 care packages last week and has only recieved 1. They both been charged to my account already.

    • admin  On July 13, 2013 at 6:20 pm

Diego – Originally there had been no limit but I believe the jail changed that to no more than two in a week. Still, your packages should have been received. Contact the iCare customer service department to find out if it has been rejected or held for any reason. You can find the number in our phone listings section.

    • admin  On September 22, 2013 at 2:11 am

Desiree – We wish we could help you but iCare is handled through a private company. You’re going to have to call them back to let them know the problems you’re having.

  • mari  On October 25, 2013 at 2:02 am

So can I put like noddless n cupcake o coffe packs in a box o what

    • admin  On November 5, 2013 at 3:43 am

Mari – No, you cannot send items like that to an inmate. We recommend you go to the category Sending & Receiving Mail. Once there click on the link that says Mail Regulations. That will let you know what you can send. It’s not much.

  • Alejandra  On November 5, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Is there any Other inmates packages supplier? Or just icare aramark

    • admin  On November 7, 2013 at 12:19 am

  • danielle  On December 25, 2013 at 7:36 pm

My husband has been in and out of jail a few times. This time around it is for longer than a month so I have gotten very familiar with how things work there and with the companies provided. I think ICare is great. The more expensive packages have more than just noodles, you just have to be willing to spend a little more. If you order the night before they get it the next day, how awesome is that! And, if you don’t want to send them noodles, there are ‘hot trays’ as my husband and everyone there calls them. Pizza & Wings, Caesar Salad, Hamburger, Pulled Pork Sandwich & a Burrito. These I have come to realize could take a couple of days to reach them, I don’t know why it’s just how it is. And, they are rarely ever HOT but in jail, they are happy to get anything other than the soy and starch they are used to day in, day out. Coffee is a hot commodity in there too. The men also trade their stuff for things they want. So really if you send them ANY care package, they will likely end up trading one or two things for something they really want. Some of the things that come in the care packages, is not sold in commissary. So if your one of the ones whose loved ones don’t send them packages, you are missing out on a bit of variety. (I get all this info from my husband. We talk everyday. Go ICSolutions!! LIFESAVER! lol) Bottom line, the guys in there get VERY creative with their food. The soups and many many many of the other items are turned into ‘a spread’ filled with any and everything they can throw in there to make a huge ‘spread’! Sharing is caring, after all! :) My husband even made a cake for one of the guys birthdays in there! Not kidding! If they are getting care packages, then they are doing well. If they can’t get money on their books and no care packages, they might starve. It is rough to survive on just the junk they serve there, apparently. Hope this helps! 18 days until he is home!!! :) :)

    • admin  On January 8, 2014 at 1:46 am

Danielle – Thank you for the info. We’re sure out other readers appreciate it.

  • Mae  On January 31, 2014 at 10:09 am

I HAVE HAD SO. MUCH TROUBLE WITH THE PEOPLE AT I CARE.IT HAS BEEN
11 DAYS NOW AND MY SON STILL HAS NOT RECIEVED HIS PACKAGE THAT
COST $72 .THE LADY SUPERVISOR IS SO RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL AND
WILL NOT GIVE ME HER NAME. HOW DO I FIND OUT WHO IS IN CHARGE OF
HER.I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN.BETTER TO DEPOSIT
    MONEY IN COMISSARY.SO DISSAPOINTED.

    • admin  On February 8, 2014 at 2:30 am

Mae – We always recommend that people who are having problems contact the Sheriff’s Office to complain. iCare is handled by Aramark. Aramark has a contract with the County to provide those services. You need to let the Sheriff’s Office know what a bad job iCare is doing so the situation can be addressed.

  • Laura  On March 3, 2014 at 2:13 pm

I have had the same problem as Mae. I ordered a Sandwich for my son approximately 3 weeks ago and he still has not received it inspite of phone calls, complaints, emails etc. to customer service. I have requested a refund and they still have not refunded my money. This is the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with. I will definitley notify The Sheriffs Office of the lousy job they are doing and report them to the Better Business Bureau and whoever else I may have to. I am sorry I ever ordered anything from them….BUYERS BEWARE…..

    • admin  On March 21, 2014 at 3:16 pm

Laura – We always recommend complaints of this nature be brought to the Sheriff’s attention. The companies that handle things like the iCare package and the phone service are private vendors. They have a contract and obligations they are supposed to meet. If those are not being met the Sheriff needs to know.

  • tina  On March 6, 2014 at 5:23 pm

does the Inmate receive a receipt from the person who purchased it

  • BREN  On April 9, 2014 at 7:46 pm

I HAD PURCHASED A PACKAGE FOR MY HUSBAND & HE DIDNT GET IT ON TIME EITHER.HE THEN CAME OUT A FEW DAYS LATER SO WE ASKED FOR A REFUND BUT WAS TOLD IT WASNT POSSIBLE BUT FOR US TO GO PICK UP HIS PACKAGE @ THE MAIN JAIL, SO WHEN WE GET THERE THE SHERIFFS COULDNT GET A HOLD OF THE ARAMARK PEOPLE EITHER THE SHERIFF TOLD US TO GO BACK @ A LATER TIME TO TRY AGAIN BUT THE 2ND TIME WASNT ANY BETTER EITHER. HE EVEN PAGED THEM OVER THE INTERCOM & THEY NEVER RESPONDED IN THE HOUR THAT WE WAITED.I WAS GIVEN A NUMBER TO CALL THEM BUT NERVER GOT ANSWERED, IT IS A RIP OFF IF U ASK ME! I HATE USING THEM AS A SOURCE TO SEND OUR LOVED ONE A REMINDER OF OUR LOVE & DONT PLAN ON USING THEM ANYMORE, BESIDES THE PACKAGE ISNT AS PRETTY OR AS ACURRATE AS THE PICTURE THAT ARE SHOWN TO US. IVE BEEN TOLD THAT ITS JUST THROWN TOGETHER IN A BAG & IF THEY DONT HAVE AVAILIABLE WHAT COMES IN THE PACKAGE THEN THEY JUST THROW A SUBSTITE IN THERE THAT IS LESS THAN ITS SUPPOSED TO BE. I THINK YALL NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER OVER THERE @ ARAMARK & GIVE OUR LOVED ONES WHAT WE PAY FOR. YALL ARE MAKING A KILLING ON THE PRICES U SCAM US WITH SO IT SHOULD BE MADE THE WAY IT PROMISES TO US IT WILL BE!!!!! – DISATISFIED CUSTOMER!!!!

    • admin  On April 17, 2014 at 4:37 am

Bren – We highly recommend that you contact the Sheriff’s Administration office at 210-335-6010 to file a complaint. They need to know the problems the general public is having with Aramark.

  • yolanda  On May 24, 2014 at 1:35 am

I just hope I don’t run into all the problems everybody else is having with delivery

  • Marta  On July 2, 2014 at 12:29 pm

    • admin  On July 31, 2014 at 4:15 am

Stacy – We always encourage people to complain when they are having issues. The Sheriff’s Office number is 210-335-6010.

  • Lsie  On August 1, 2014 at 1:38 am

Tell the truth about these people an they will NOT post you’re comment .

    • admin  On August 1, 2014 at 8:00 pm

Lsie – We are not the Bexar County jail. We are a private website that attempts to help people deal with the jail system. We have absolutely no affiliation with them and we maintain this website (and others) in our off time since we all have full-time jobs. We do the best we can but sometimes there are long periods of time in between our answers. Your previous post was 3 minutes before this current post but we normally attempt to put out posts that help people. We get a massive amount of comments and yes, if there is no value in a post, it’s just a person wanting to vent in an ugly way, we don’t publish the post. If you’ll read the other comments you’ll see that we do let people make negative comments.

  • Mary  On August 3, 2014 at 12:43 am

I ordered the coffee package July 9 on a Wednesday and my loved one received it the following thursday. Okay, My complaint is he did not receive all the goodies he was suppose to receive. Is there any way he can still be compensated?

    • admin  On September 5, 2014 at 2:56 pm

Mary – Definitely call to complain. We have heard that for some reason they are splitting the orders, giving part at one time then the other part at a different time. We are not sure if this is valid. We are still trying to get confirmation.

  • jasmin  On August 12, 2014 at 1:23 pm

Is there a way icould order a icare package over the phone like a number I could call

    • admin  On September 5, 2014 at 2:41 pm

Brenda – All we find is their customer service number but on the website it says they will help you place an order. We don’t know if that means they will help you if you are having trouble online or they will take orders over the phone. Give it a try then please let us know if they took the order over the phone. The information is: 1-877-615-3296, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm CST.

  • Arturo  On September 14, 2014 at 1:53 am

i was planning to send a friend of mine a care package. But afer reading all these these complaints i am having second thoughts. Thid company seems to be a total rip off. They are charging an arm and a leg, the least they can do is deliver the merchandise promptly and fresh. These people that ate running it should be incarcerated for being thiefs and scum. And the Bexar County Sheriffs Dept should have taken immediate action agaist this company to correct this problem. But it seems they also don’t give a damn. They are just ad bad or worse…

    • admin  On September 14, 2014 at 4:14 am

Arturo – We agree that Sheriff Pamerleau should address this situation. We don’t know why she is ignoring it. All we can say is remember this when election time rolls around.

  • yara  On September 27, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Is there any way to order single items or is everything by packages?

    • admin  On September 27, 2014 at 10:02 pm

Yara – If you mean through iCare then, no, it’s all by packages.

  • CHRISTIAN  On December 7, 2014 at 2:44 pm

WILL THE INMATES KNOW WHO THE SENDER OF THE PACKAGE IS

    • admin  On December 19, 2014 at 1:18 am

Christian – You will be able to have your name put on it.

  • Julianna  On August 25, 2015 at 3:16 pm

This company does seem to be a total ripoff compared to SecurePak, which the prison used to have. It’s all about getting those kickbacks, heck with the prisoners who can’t afford these packages or the families. SMH.

    • admin  On September 10, 2015 at 8:03 pm

Julianna – The profits are used to pay for items and programs for the inmates.

  • gloria  On November 20, 2015 at 4:37 pm

What is needed in this block to allow me to get in to

    • admin  On February 14, 2016 at 6:50 pm

Hope – Please do not attempt to send an iCare package at this time. The jail no longer has a contract with Aramark. Until they get their new vendor set up the systems will not be working properly.

    • admin  On April 9, 2016 at 5:41 pm

  • Dane  On May 2, 2016 at 2:58 pm
