Have a comment regarding the screener at the Annex. My son has been an inmate for approximately one month and our experience has been dismal. My comment is about the short, heavy-set young woman who does the screening when we visit on Monday evenings. The disrespect is astounding. She treats people with no dignity, raising her voice as if though we are children with uncalled for remarks. This woman has no regard for the kind of stress and sorrow families suffer during this difficult time. We are NOT there to cause anyone any difficulty nor have we broken the law. Treat us with the respect we deserve. This young woman needs some serious training in that respect.
Maria – We are not the Bexar County jail. We are a private website that attempts to help the people who have to deal with the jail system. Screeners are still hired employees. Call the Sheriff’s administration office at 210-335-6010 to lodge a complaint.
Have a question. My son’s substance abuse is what has ultimately put him in jail. I refused to bail him since I figured this confinement and hopefully a rehab program in the future would be what is needed.
This is a new experience and the most tragic one of my life. To add to my grief, I am now finding out that drugs are everywhere in the jail and that inmates use commissary money/food in exchange for drugs. Commissary money??? How is this possible? Is there someone on the inside that can withdraw the money from their accounts in exchange for drugs? It would be hard to believe that anyone would exchange drugs for a bag of chips. Just what is going on and how do drugs get in the jail? I find the lack of vigilance appalling!
Maria – It’s easy to find something that paints the worst possible picture but that is far from the truth. Drugs are not rampant in the jail. Do drugs get in? No doubt they do but nowhere near as easily as you think and not in large quantities. We will refrain from explaining the various ways it can be done for everyone’s safety.
What is work release and how does it work?
Ms. Cordova – It’s a way to do your jail time without losing your job. A person can be released in the morning for work and return at night to serve their time or maybe serve their time just on weekends. It all depends on what the judge allows.
My son’s substance abuse has landed him in Bexar county jail. I could pay his bail, but thinking a couple of weeks of staying clean in jail may help. My problem is he calls twice a day telling me he is getting beat up and his food is being stolen. Can you tell me if this is something that happens all the time in jail or is he exaggerating.
Ann – We’re very sorry for the situation you’re in but it’s very common for addicts to try to play on the sympathies of their family. The jail is liable for the safety of the inmates. It’s one thing not to be able to foresee a situation. It’s another to leave an inmate in a situation that is known to be unsafe. The County would get it’s ass sued off and the sheriff, no matter who it is, would probably lose in the next election they faced. No, he’s not getting beat up all the time. If his food is really being stolen by other inmates then he needs to file a grievance. The forms are in the day room.
I work for the City of San Antonio…
Jesse – We are not the Bexar County jail. We are a private website that attempts to help people deal with the jail. We recommend you contact the Sheriff’s Office at 210-335-6010.
If a person skips one weekend of weekend jail what happens, they had an emergency but will return to finish the rest of their required weekends.
Tom – He better contact them as soon as possible or there may be a warrant out for his arrest. Might already be one.
My son was arrested today, before i go further, he is physofrinic. He was arrested because he was looking for a road runner around outside of house, and someone reported him that he was peeping through a window. He was chasing this freakin road runner. Anyway they took in in for some warrants. I feel bad, although the offer assured me he would make sure he was seen mentally, because by then they could tell, he wasn’t all there. ..My question is. How do give them more of his background, because he freaks out with alot of people, he hears voices, he’s very venerable, vary! I feel that he could be in danger for himself. I am praying every hour of every minute that someone, by Gods grace will see the young man inside, and help him. But how can I, as a parent make sure that he’s not taken advantage of either, my warmest heart needs an answer
Priscilla – We recommend you call the medical section to give them information and to ask about his well-being. That number is 210-335-6260 or 210-335-6167. We wish you the best of luck.

Josie – This website is a private website set up to help the family and friends of people in the Bexar County jail. We are not the real jail. You are the second person we have heard say some thing like that. That seems an unreasonable amount of time to us. You’re right, someone could get very sick before they are checked out. We suggest you call the Sheriff’s Office and ask to speak to someone in Sheriff’s Administration.

I have been calling to the jail about why is it that my son hasn’t got an ID card yet when it was the officers that lost the card and its been a month and my son can’t get commissary without a card how long does it take for an inmate to get a card. If it’s about why he is there well everyone is innocent till proven guilty.
Joann – We suggest your son files a grievance. There should be forms in the dayroom. Or they may have gone to electronic forms now that they have the kiosks. He can check with the unit officer. Either way, tell him to file a complaint. Complaints have to be addressed.
