MATCH/PATCH PROGRAM

The MATCH/PATCH Program stands for ‘mothers and their children’ and ‘papas and their children’.  This program helps incarcerated parents to become better parents.  Classification screens inmates who apply to be in this program.  Once in the program the inmate has to attend classes during the week.  They also have to exhibit good behavior to be able to get their one hour visit with their child and to stay in the program.

What does Classification look for? To begin with they will verify with MATCH/PATCH that there is a parent/child relationship.  Then they will look for a list of things that the inmate CANNOT have.  The inmate cannot be charged with murder, sexual assault, molestation, child injury, or delivery of narcotics.  He cannot have a death penalty or life imprisonment sentence.  The inmate cannot be a prison gang member or have friends who are prison gang members.  He cannot have jurisdictional holds.  And he can’t be housed in non-general units, protective custody or disciplinary detention.  Some of the regular disciplinary actions may disqualify him also.

If an inmate would like to apply for this program he can fill out a Human Services Application Form 351-315.  Those forms are available in each living unit.

For more information contact MATCH/PATCH at 210-335-6330.

I just wanted to say I was a active participant of the Patch Program about 4 or 5 years ago. I never missed a class and stayed in the program until the day I was transfered to start my sentence. I was released in January of 2008 and have been on probation ever since then. Yesterday I went to report and I was given a card with my next reporting instructions. The difference from the last 35 ones that I received for the last 3 years is this one said “Last Report.” Next month in Jan. I will be completly free and off of my obligations to the Judicial System. In great part I want to thank the Patch Program for the values they help instilled in me and I credit them for helping me stay focused while in there and after I came out. The daily classes help moviate me even after my release. Thank you so very much for your help, guidance, prayers and trust that some of us will make it and succeed. God bless to you all staff and inmates.

When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better.. Good Luck!!!

Congratulations on your success! We hope it helps you and your family to move forward in a more positive way. We would like to make sure that you realize that this site is not connected with the Bexar County Jail, we are privately owned. I hope someone from the jail reads your post and relays your thanks to the staff. Merry Christmas.

How can an inmate who is on ad seg LockDown get off that level and is there any programs for these kind of inmates??

    • admin

Mandi – Administrative segregation (ad seg) is decided on for a reason. Usually those reasons are a very dangerous inmate or an inmate that needs a high degree of protection. There can be other reasons but those two are the most common. The decision to put someone on ad seg is made by the Sheriff’s Office. There’s not really anything you can do to change it. The have to protect their liability. Ad seg inmates do not get to participate in programs because of the amount of additional security needed.

Hi i was wondering if u could help my husband has just started the patch program and this will be the first time I take my son to see him for his hour visit but I was wondering am I going to have to leave my son with his father or do I stay for the visitation too, I’m pretty sure I stay but I just want to know cuz if I have to leave them alone I won’t feel right

  4. Sandra

Hi i was wondering. How often and long are the visits with the children. And what do they do? Is physical contact allowed. How long does it take to get approved? and do they have this program in the prisions? Please help. Thank You.

    • admin

Sandra – The visitation is one hour with physical contact. They can spend time coloring, reading and various other things. This program is definitely used as an incentive for good behavior. Prisons are State level facilities. We don’t have information for anything other than the Bexar County Jail.

Sandra – Your first step needs to be to call MATCH/PATCH at 210-335-6330. The inmate may not even be eligible for this program. You will need to speak to them to find out if he qualifies and to get answers to any other questions you have.

  11. Janet

Good Afternoon. I have made several attempts to call your office. No one has returned the call.I was in the program when it first started with M*****.
Question do you have a need for outside volunteers or do you have a place that I can drop off clothes for the ladies returning home that might need some.

    • admin

Janet – We are not the Bexar County jail. We are a private website that attempts to help people deal with the Bexar County jail. You might want to call the Sheriff’s administration office to see if they need volunteers and clothing.

What is a writ attached to interstate compact agreement? Is there a deadline for bexar county to respond? Is it true if they don’t within a certain timeframe, a case may be dismissed?

My son’s dad just went in he’s got a years it’s a felony charge a drug charge with intent to deliver there’s no way that he would be able to qualify because I would really like him to get in a program to help with his parenting and to see his son this would be a really good benefit for him is there any way around the qualifications I mean he’s not in a home unit yet but I mean is it possible is there anyway possible once he gets situated and he’s in a home unit that he could possibly still get qualified even with an intent to deliver if not do you know any other programs that he could possibly go through to get counseling and possibly see his son .

      • admin

Tanya – You need to contact the Match/Patch administrators to find out if anything can be done. Their number is 210-335-6330. Match/Patch has strict guidelines to protect the children. We don’t know what they can do for you but it never hurts to ask.

  13. Sheila

    Hello,
My name is Sheila, and had become incarcerated approximately two years ago. I suffered from alcoholism and depression but deeply longed for personal freedom. Little did I realize, incarceration would lead to my path of awareness and self love. I truly have the MATCH program and Ms. Ashley to thank for opening my eyes and being my outside perspective. I have been sober now for over three years and been out of prison for one year. The nature of my crime is far too common in low income families and now dream of giving back to what ultimately has lead to my freedom not only outside of jail but within my consciousness. I thank the people who are part of the MATCH/PATCH foundation with all my heart.

Sheila – Congratulations on your sobriety! We wish you the best of luck.

Ms. Castilleja, we are not the Bexar County jail. We are a private website that tries to help people maneuver through the different jail processes. You need to contact the actual jail. 210-335-6010.

      • Margarito

I was a participant in the program a few years ago and would like info about the resources we qualify for after completion of the program

      • admin

Margarito – We are not the Bexar County Jail. We are a private website that attempts to help people who have to deal with the processes at the jail. You will need to call the jail for information on programs, but our understanding is, most programs are no longer active. It doesn’t seem Salazar is making any attempt to help inmates come out better than how they went in.
