Getting Basic Information

For Inmates:

When an individual gets arrested it’s not really unusual that they miss some of the information that is given to them.  This does not mean that they have to wait until they speak to their attorney to get the information.  Once in a Living Unit the inmate can ask the Living Unit Officer for an Inmate Request for Information Form (Appendix A).  Using this form inmates can get information like who the judge is on his case, the court date, the bond amount, what the charge is, what the fine amount is (if there is one), who their court appointed attorney is and even how much money they have in their commissary account.

What some inmates may be tempted to do is call someone outside the jail then have that person make a conference call to Central Records to try to get the information.  Don’t bother.  Central Records will not assist people on a conference call and quite a bit of that information they don’t have anyway.  In addition, the call could be reported to the Living Unit Officer as a violation of the rules and regulations and may be subject to disciplinary action.

my boyfriend is in the bexar county jail waiting to be moved to the isf program he has been waiting over 45 days to be moved he has not yet been moved my question is how long does it normally take to be moved is it possible he can be at the bexar county jail for up to a year before they move him. And also if they don’t is there a chance he can get released from the jail if they don’t move him after a long time?

Daisy – They have to wait for a bed to become available. A year wait seems unlikely but not impossible. Yes, he can be released right from the jail.

My mom was recently arrested for murder charges and her court appointed attorney never returns my calls he even put my phone number on the reject list. I don’t have any information about her case, court date, anything I barly found out her SID number by contacting the county jail. Who else can I speak with?

    • admin

Antonique – You can call the court her case is assigned to, to see if a court date has been set. Other than that you will have to get information from your mother.

Lucy – We are not the Bexar County jail. We are a site that tries to help people deal with the jail system. At the current time the jail is not allowing inmates to get married.

Leah – The district court file was forwarded to district court 227. That will be the court where the case will be heard. We’re not sure who BF is.

My son is in Bexar County and called and told me that he broke his glasses. I have another pair of prescription glasses, Can I drop these off at the jail and will he be able to get them? He cannot see without glasses, so they are needed. Also, will they allow me to get the broken ones to get them repaired since I have a warranty on them? If you cannot answer any of these questions, what would be a good number to call. Thank you

    • admin

Sandra – You can take the glass to the front desk where the officers are. We’re told that people are allowed to bring glasses for an inmate. As far as getting the broken ones we’re not sure about that. You will need to ask the officers.

My boyfriend has been booked and is in the jail awaiting his court date. He has not had a mattress for 2 days. When I called they said he would get a new one, but it has been 2 days and he still doesn’t a new one. I called again today and they informed me that they are out of mattresses. Do you think that there are any additional steps I can take? I am not sure who to call next.

T – Try calling the Sheriff’s administrative offices to complain. You won’t get to speak to the Sheriff but they will pass on your complaint to someone who can look into it. That number is 210-335-6010.

If an inmate has been transferred to TDC from Bexar County Jail how long will it take for me to find his info online? Or is there someone I can call to get his TDCJ number and the unit he will go to?

    • admin

Renee – We are not sure if they will transfer you to the Classification department but you can try. Call Central Records at 210-335-6201 and ask to be transferred to Classification. That would be the department that would probably know exactly where an inmate was sent. We’re not sure if it’s an internal department or if they take calls from the public.

My boyfriend is in bexar county jail waiting to go to the isf program how long will it take for him to get transferred to the isf program and if his been in bexar county jail for a few months to long with no transfer then will the jail just release him instead ?

    • admin

Marie – We have been told that when a program is ordered the inmate has to wait until there is a space available. We haven’t heard of people being released because it took too long.

They actually let my friend be out while she awaited a bed. I don’t know if this is common practice or not but they did let her in her situation, so it is possible.

    • admin

Cindy – They intentionally do not release that information due to security reasons.

Does the corrlinks email system work for this jail location? I know an invitation has to be sent to me first by inmate(my boyfriend). My boyfriend can see the option for corrlinks on his end but I’m not receiving the invitation. I registered for an account but can’t receive his code & he has my correct email. I called the jail & was told they didn’t know what corrlinks was but if they don’t know then how is it an option my boyfriend can see on his end where he logs in to check his mail.. just wondering if corrlinks is able to be used for this location.

    • admin

Rae – This is a very good question. We had to reach out to our contacts to try to get information. Corrlink is used by the federal government. Inmates access it through the kiosks. If there is a Corrlink option on the kiosk it’s because they supply those kiosks to all kinds of detention facilities. That option is not active for the Bexar County Jail.

My ex was recently pickup for warrants ,no contact order by judge and out on P.R.B…sent to pretrial services revoked what he was told not to due. Also had picked up a recent assault charge on me,and wanted to know why does he have a small bond,..what is he looking at overall the crap he did to me

    • admin

Joy – We’re sorry for what you are going through. Unfortunately the system doesn’t treat female victims very well. Just recently, four Amish brothers admitted to repeatedly raping their little sister. Only the two boys who were adults were charged and they were given probation. The prosecutor who gave them such a sweet deal said the boys would be eaten alive in the state prison system. And that was his justification for ignoring what was done to the young girl. The juveniles got off completely free and the two older boys got probation, no jail time. And the girl? Well, she gets to stay living in hell with her abusers. Things like this are very common. Male abusers are given all kinds of consideration while the women who are abused, are ignored.

I could use some resources to follow a court case. Someone very close to me was murdered in January of this year. A couple was arrested in mid February. He and his co-defendant were indicted by the grand jury this past Monday. Bexar County Clerks office said their arraignments were for today. When I called the 379th, they told me they dont do felony arraignments. Is there a way I can get more info on this case? Also, his lawyer filed a motion to suppress last week. The only thing that the Clerks office has listed is an efile envelope number. Are the envelopes public knowledge? If so, how could I go about finding out what his lawyer is trying to suppress? Or would I have to wait for the trial if there isn’t a plea deal reached? Thank you for your help
