Understanding Why George Floyd Died
Clearing Up the Confusion
There is a lot of disinformation out about why George Floyd died and it was only made worse by the Medical Examiner releasing a preliminary report saying there was no sign of strangulation or asphyxiation. The report went on to say Mr. Floyd had other health conditions and that if intoxicants were involved then they could be a factor. This was, in my opinion, a very unprofessional thing to do. It’s as if he or she assumed, ‘Black man? Must be either drunk or on drugs.’ Why didn’t the report say they were waiting on the toxicology report instead? That’s usually what we hear. But rather than go non-committal since he didn’t know, he phrased it in a way that would make some people think it wasn’t the officer’s fault. I take issue with that. But I’m not a doctor, so I’m giving you a video of a real doctor so he can explain what happens and why it happens.
As an ER doctor for 2 decades I know that #GeorgeFloyd was killed. Believe what you saw in the video. He did not die because of heart disease or intoxicants, he died because Derek Chauvin killed pinned him to the ground on his chest with his knee in his neck. #BlackLivesMatter pic.twitter.com/QXjV7KdYpj
