Intoxicated U.S. Marshal Drives Wrong Way on 1604

In the early hours of Friday morning, deputy U.S. Marshal Jonathan Jones was driving on 1604 when he crashed head-on into another vehicle. It turns out the deputy Marshal was driving the wrong way on 1604. Jones’ truck hit the sedan with enough force to pin the woman in the vehicle. First responders with the fire department had to be called to remove the woman from the car at which time she was taken to University Hospital in serious condition.

The crash was handled by the San Antonio Police Department. Jonathan Jones was given a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested for Intoxication assault and unlawfully carrying a weapon. Jone’s bonds totaled to $50,000. He posted his bond and was released.

U.S. Marshals Service Releases Statement

Christopher Bozeman, with the U.S. Marshals Service, confirmed that Jonathan Jones was employed by the U.S. Marshals Service. Bozeman released the following statement:

“The U.S. Marshals Service is aware of the arrest of Deputy U.S. Marshal Jonathan Jones and the alleged charge against him. We are cooperating fully with the San Antonio Police Department’s investigation of the incident. We take seriously any allegation of misconduct by our personnel and an internal investigation will be conducted. The alleged actions of this employee do not reflect the core values of the U.S. Marshals Service, therefore, Jones will be relieved of his operational duties and placed on administrative leave. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with the victim of this unfortunate incident.”

Another Career Ruined

We’ve been operating this website for several years and in that time we have seen officers throw away excellent careers on a single bad decision, over and over and over. We never realized how many officers get in trouble with the law. I’m not talking about the people who are predators or power junkies who go into law enforcement for the power it gives them. I’m talking about decent, everyday people who worked hard to get where they are then do the same thing other criminals do, perform an illegal action thinking they won’t get caught.

It’s sad to see that happen to anyone. We can all make a bad decision. But a woman, who did nothing wrong, is in the hospital and the reality is law enforcement officers know better than any of us what the repercussions are of driving while intoxicated. We wish the best to the woman who was injured.
