Sheriff Salazar Picks Another Unqualified Person to Run the Jail

The Bexar County Jail.
The Bexar County Jail.

There’s breaking news out tonight.  Apparently Sheriff Javier Salazar has picked a third person to be a chief over the detention facility.  As everyone knows, the jail under Sheriff Javier Salazar has continued to make mistake after mistake with no real end in sight.  Sheriff Salazar has continually come up with knee-jerk decisions that have done nothing but make the process more complicated.  In another example of his incompetence we would like you to read the statement given to the media.  According to the KSAT 12 article a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office said the following.:

“Deputy Chief Jaime Rios was appointed by Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar as an addition to Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff and will serve as Deputy Chief in Detention Administration, alongside Jail Administrator Deputy Chief Avery Walker and Deputy Chief Joel Janssen. Deputy Chief Rios is a licensed jail administrator and is a 33 year veteran of law enforcement, with 20 years working in federal law enforcement, to include serving two tours in Iraq. Most recently, Chief Jaime Rios successfully served as the Jail Administrator for the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office for over 4 years.

Tomorrow on October, 31, 2019, Sheriff Javier Salazar will make a formal announcement regarding Chief Jaime Rios’ appointment to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.”

This is so ignorant that I don’t even know where to begin.  The Bexar County jail is 16 times bigger than the Maverick County jail.  Really? Really?  Salazar thinks someone who only spent 4 years running a jail, one that is about the size of a medium-sized hotel, is qualified to run a jail that is 16 times bigger, has a multitude of problems and that has been out of compliance for the majority of Salazar’s term in office?

Only 4 years! Only 250 inmates!

Those are the only two stats that really matter.  His total years in law enforcement don’t give him experience in running a jail.  His 20 years in federal law enforcement don’t give him experience in running a jail.  His two tours in Iraq don’t give him experience in running a jail.  All this man has is 4 years of experience running a tiny jail.  That is the reality of what Sheriff Salazar just did to the Bexar County Detention Center and the citizens of Bexar County.

I have no doubt that Salazar was impressed by the amount of time Mr. Rios spent in law enforcement.  That is the only thing that seems to impress Salazar.  If he had any understanding of Detention he would know that 4 years working in a Detention facility is nothing.  Chiefs Avery Walker and Joel Janssen have decades of combined knowledge in detention and yet they’ve pretty much been complete failures.

All the private prison owners have to be salivating while they watch Javier Salazar and James Serrato destroy the Bexar County jail.  I’m sure they’re ready to swoop in and take over when those two have reduced that organization beyond the point of redemption.
