Officer Arrested for Domestic Violence
San Antonio Police Officer, Jonathan Montalvo, was arrested on Saturday after he got into a fight with his girlfriend. The couple, who share an apartment, began arguing over Montalvo’s cell phone. According to the KSAT 12 article:
“The woman told police that while they were arguing, he grabbed her by the neck, threw her on the bed and placed his hand over her mouth, constricting her breathing, according to officials.”
Montalvo, who is 23 years old, has been with the San Antonio Police Department for two years. He was arrested on a felony level domestic violence charge and was placed on administrative leave while the police department investigates the crime.
Domestic Violence Epidemic in San Antonio
It’s ironic that the arrest of San Antonio Police Officer, Jonathan Montalvo, occurred one day before Chief William McManus spoke to the media about a change to SAPD’s Crisis Response Team due to the epidemic of domestic violence that is occurring in San Antonio.
Not that we consider Montalvo’s actions a reflection on Chief McManus, in any way. In fact, we applaud Chief McManus for trying to address the domestic violence cases that have swelled to record levels in San Antonio. It’s good to have at least one leader, of our major law enforcement agencies in Bexar County, that we can be proud of.
