(TX) – A police officer with the San Antonio Police Department was initially arrested on January 13. The victim in a domestic violence case reported that her abuser was getting information from someone. Investigators discovered that Officer Erik Rodriguez was getting information on the domestic violence case and passing it to the abuser. Once it was discovered what Officer Rodriguez had done, he was charged with Bribery and Misuse of Official Information.

Per KSAT 12,

“According to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, the first and second counts of the indictment allege that Erik Rodriguez accepted $100 from Jeremiah Gonzalez on Jan. 6 in exchange for information regarding a case that had not been made public.”

Police Chief Reacts to Arrest

The San Antonio Police Department released a statement from Chief McManus on the arrest of Officer Erik Rodriguez.

“Preventing family violence and providing services to victims has been and remains a priority for the San Antonio Police Department. I am bitterly disappointed and frustrated that an SAPD Officer would violate his oath of office and the public trust by placing a survivor in jeopardy. The quick response of the SAPD Detective assigned to this case reinforces that there will be swift and serious consequences for any type of misconduct. The investigation of the officer and the abuser will continue, and additional charges may be filed.”

Investigators Add Possession of Child Pornography Charge

KSAT 12 has written an initial article, and three updates, on this story. None of them give very much information on the added charge of possession of child pornography. The second update to the story says the charge “stems from an incident on Jan. 13.” That also appears to be the date of arrest for the Bribery charge, according to the initial story. This seems to indicate that Rodriguez’s cell phone was searched when he was arrested, as part of the bribery investigation, and during that search, the child pornography video was discovered. KSAT 12’s second update goes on to state, “Rodriguez was allegedly in possession of a video that showed an underage child engaged in sexual bestiality.”

Judge Approves Child Visitation

In the latest update on this story, Erik Rodriguez requested to be allowed to have visitation with his children. He told the judge he just wanted to work, to provide for his family and to see his children. Rodriguez also claimed that his wife supported him completely and was willing to have him back home. Judge Velia Meza granted supervised visitation.
