Florida Police Officer Solicits Sexual Photos of Minor

Margate police officer, Andrew Christian Hammock, was arrested on Tuesday by U.S. Marshals. Officer Hammock was caught in the U.S. Department of Justice program, Project Safe Childhood, which is a national program that was set up in 2006 with the specific intent of catching pedophiles who tried to lure children online.

Hammock was using the name Playful_guy when he cast out his lure saying, “feel like peeking and being peeked at by a younger girl.” An undercover FBI agent with Project Safe Childhood responded, portraying herself (or himself) as a 14 year old girl. Hammock expressed his desire for photos of the minor when she was “in between” clothes changes. Maybe this was his way of trying to be ambiguous in case he ever had to defend himself. Not that it would have worked but he was unable to keep from asking for more. He encouraged the ‘minor’ to be open minded and said, “If you’re willing to be seen half naked at beach, don’t be afraid to let me see a little of you.”

Why Does This Keep Happening?

It has been shocking for us, writing about all the officers that get arrested. Every industry will have people who end up in jail and it’s well-known that people with various predilections will gravitate towards careers in fields that let them satisfy their cravings. A person who has a strong desire to help people may want to be a police officer, but so will a person who is a bully and has a strong desire to assert his power over others.

Even knowing that, it’s been a real eye-opener to see how often police officers get arrested for abusing other people, most often, women and children. We have mentioned it before and we will keep saying it, there needs to be a better psychological test.

The Destruction of a Career

Officer Hammock is a 46 year old, married man. He has been with the Margate Police Department for 18 years. If convicted of this crime he will face a minimum of 15 years in federal prison, and it could be as much as 30 years. Beyond that, he may be required to register as a sex offender for life. It’s hard to imagine him beating this when it’s documented, so this man threw everything he had away for some pictures. And more than likely, his marriage won’t survive it either. How can anyone fell this is worth it? If he had urges of seeing naked minors he would have been better served going to a psychiatrist. Crisis Hotline number listed below.
