Bootleg Video Shows the Horrors of a Florida Prison

Florida Inmate films prison conditions
Inmate Scott Whitney – bootleg film

The Miami Herald got a major scoop when an inmate in the Martin Correctional Institution smuggled out video he had been shooting for years.  According to the Miami Herald article, the Martin Correctional Institution is a notoriously dangerous prison.

Scott Whitney is an inmate in the Martin facility.  His film documents fights, drug overdoses, homemade weapons, homemade alcohol, the way in which inmates attempt to make their own body armor to protect themselves and more.  This is a graphic look what we put people through.  While I am a firm believer in the legal and judicial systems, my greatest belief is in the constitution.  The first 10 amendments of our constitution form the Bill of Rights.  The Eighth Amendment is very simple and straight forward.  It states:

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

The conditions in the bootleg video are clearly cruel and unusual.  We, as a civilized society, should not be forcing people into an environment that is no different than what was in the movie Escape From New York.  That was supposed to be a movie, not instructions on how to run a real life prisons.  If this is how the Martin facility is run, it needs to be shut down.  We are posting one of the videos below.  We recommend you read the Miami Herald article at the link above.
