P.R. BONDS

The PR bonds are done out of the Pretrial Services department.  Their department is an extension of the Courthouse.  They determine if a person is eligible to receive a personal recognizance bond.  Because this is what they are known for they are called P.R. Bonds by the majority of people.  I’ll stay with that name so there won’t be any confusion.

When a person gets a P.R. bond they are signing on their own personal recognizance.  In other words, they are promising to appear in court.  There is a fee for a P.R. bond, normally 3% of the bond, nonrefundable.  The arrested individual will be interviewed by P.R. Bonds personnel.  They will ask for a list of references and will call those individuals to help them determine if the arrested person is someone who has strong ties to the community or is someone who might run.

It’s a time consuming process which keeps them very busy.  However, they are pretty decent when dealing with people on the phone.  They are a 24/7 operation.

Kristal – Quite a while. It depends on what point you got the bond. If you got it as soon as the individual got magistrated you have to wait through the full booking process then the full bonding process. The amount of people being booked adds into the equation also. You can easily wait over 12 hours. If the arrested person is being belligerent or is drunk it may be even longer.

I’m trying to see if anyone knows if you get charged with assult/family/choking felony of 3rd degree would they still be eligible for a PR bond?

PinkPebbles – The system is set up so that an inmate is screened for P.R. eligibility during the booking process. The jail does this in the hopes that the arrested person can be released before he/she goes to the jail to avoid overcrowding. That’s pretty much his chance to get a P.R. bond.

My brother got arrested on 7/11/15 and was let out on 7/13/15 on a PR bond. On 9/8/15 the deputy went to his house and said that he had a warrant for his arrest. That the judge and the DA had pulled the PR bond. How can they do that.

And what is the process of seeing the judge? What all happens in the courtroom? They never said I need to call and check in or anything that I need to come to court would that be true.

Is there a chance he can come out he is on parole but has never been on probation or been to prison and if he does get out can they send him back to jail ?:(

Diana – A PR bond is basically signing on your own good name. You are giving your word to appear. The small amount of money that gets paid is for the processing of the paperwork. With a regular bond you pay the full amount of if you can’t afford that you can go to a bonds company and pay a percentage of the full amount to them. They in turn use their credit to pay the full amount.

Jennifer – P.R. bonds is part of the judicial system. We answer what we can in regards to the jail and tiny amount on other systems that touch on the jail system. Your best bet is to contact P.R. bonds.

My boyfriend is in jail for a misdemeanor and felony, I THINK he said 3rd degree or will likely be a 3rd degree. The Pr bound said he isn’t eligible at the time for a pr..why is that? She called me to ask if he got a pr would he show up to court however he isnt eligible. But the paper work is written up already just in case

Gabby – P.R. Bonds is a function of the judicial system (the courts). We limited our website to what the jail does. We’re not as familiar with the other branches. From experience we can say that asking if he would stay to go to court is part of the interview process. We do know the jail is almost full and they are trying to get people out. They have already gone to allowing all misdemeanors to apply for P.R. Bonds. Maybe they are thinking of letting some felonies get bonds. We don’t know but think it might be a possibility.

When i was arrested my husband posted bond. 14 hours later i am told to see a pr person for bond.which i did now i have two bonds

Tommy – Your comment is a little confusing. Did you have more than one charge? If so, it could be that you were able to get a PR bond on one of the charges but not on the other and needed a regular bond for that one. If you did not have more than one charge then the jail only accepts one bond. Find out which they accepted. If it was the PR bond then it sounds like the bond company owes you back some money. You need to speak to them to see what the terms were.

Julieanna – When you say to process do you mean to get approved or do you mean the release time. They get approved fairly quickly, maybe an hour or two. For someone to get out on a P.R. bond is the same process as a regular bond.

My boyfriend got arrested on the 17th of November . It’s his first felony in San Antonio tx, .He’s been locked up ever since , How long will it take if he’s already in the list of pr bond …

    • admin

Ms. sain – Normally a P.R. bond is given as quickly as possible, within hours of arrest. It’s not impossible to get one after that time frame. There may be a hold up in contacting his references. You should call P.R. bonds at 210-335-6315 to get more information as to what is happening.

Harold – We have never heard of an actual limit but if a person has a lot of cases against him they probably won’t trust him enough to give him more.

My husband is in jail for assault causing bodily injury on 4 counts. He has been charged with assault causing bodily injury before,he has hired a lawyer and the lawyer said he sent everything off for a PR bond to the DA’s office and that they were going to decide whether or not there was a criminal case. He’s been locked up for 33 days. Can he get out on PR bond and how long does it take for the district attorney to process it?

    • admin

Britney – A judge can decide an inmate is eligible for a PR bond. It doesn’t matter that he has been locked up. But it should have been done quicker than this. You should contact his attorney to see what’s happening.

Pretrial services called me today at 5pm to get information on my boyfriend to help determine if they could grant him a pr bond. How long does it take to know if it got Approved?

    • admin

Victoria – They will try to speak to the people listed as references. They try to get it done as quickly as possible to get the person out but a lot depends on their ability to get the information they need.
