CENTRAL MAGISTRATE

Central Magistrate website.

Central Magistrate (City side): 210-207-7532

The Central Magistrate is often called C-Mag or Mag’s Office.  It is a joint processing area that includes City and County personnel.  If an individual has been arrested for the first time on a charge he will be taken to the Magistrate’s Office to be processed.  (Individuals arrested on warrants go straight to the jail).  The arrested person will see a magistrate (judge) who will decide if he gets bond and how much that bond will be.

P.R. Bonds will interview the individual to see if he is eligible to be released on his personal recognizance, which is sort of like giving his word to appear in court.  While P.R. Bonds is validating the information he gave, County officers will begin verifying his identity which will include taking his fingerprints and photo.  If a P.R. bond is denied, the individual will be sent to the County Jail to complete the booking process.  If it is approved the individual will be released once the book-in then book-out processes are complete.

This system was set up to help with the overcrowding at the County Jail.  But because of this system the Central Magistrate’s Office frequently knows if someone has been arrested before the people at the  jail do.  If you call Central Records to find out information on someone who just got arrested and they don’t show him in the system, try calling the Magistrate’s Office.

NOTE:  City is having some problems with their phone number.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.  If it is not working when you call try 210-207-7534 instead.

I found the individual I was looking for, however under comments it says “PR/YF”. I have looked up the acronym dictionary and can not find anything for “YF”. Can you please help?

    • admin

Jamie – Please give us more information. Where were you looking? Was it in the activity log? Could we have the information on the individual you were looking up? Name and DOB please. We will not print that information when we find out the answer and post it.

I am in the Central Magistrate webpage which seems realy great for getting uptodate info on someone recently arrested. i do a search by last name and birthdate and get most of what i need until the initials part. a lot are not on the definitions page the Magistrate website offers. this would be a great addition to this already very useful site. that being said. Does anyone know what 2 RELS 1st means. I think it means to be realsed 1st shift but in not sure.

    • admin

Josh – We appreciate the suggestion and the compliment. You are not the only person to ask a question of this type. The abbreviations used on the Magristrate website are non-standard. They are a sort of shorthand that the person entering the information uses. It appears to vary from shift to shift and day to day. We will do our best to get some kind of list generated to help out but since we have to go on a case by case basis we are unsure how long it will take.

Cheryl – Call Central Records at 210-335-6201. If he is in the Bexar County Jail then they should be able to help you.

how do I pick up property from an inmate & I do I know if I’m allowed to pick it up where can I call to find out so I know before I go down there

  4. Jeff

My friend turned herself in when she heard about her warrant, what is the benefit of doing this when magistrate does not let the indictee speak during bail hearing?

    • admin

Jeff – The way a person should handle turning themselves in is to first go to an attorney or a bonds company to have the bond ready to go as soon as the booking process is completed. That cuts down drastically on the amount of time the individual spends in jail. It also avoids situations like getting pulled over and getting arrested. If that happens your car will be towed. If you have children with you they will be turned over to CPS and heck if I know what they do with any animals you may have with you.

As for the bond amount, those things are already determined at the time the warrant is issued. There is no arguing the amount at the time of magistration.

    • admin

Bev – Are those initials somewhere on the Jail Activity Lists? We are not familiar with them. The Central Magistrate is a combination of Bexar County, SAPD and the courts. They may be initials that one of the other agencies uses.

  5. Alexa

the central magistrate website as well as the jail activity reports say my brother was released on bond. And me and my mother did indeed post the $3500 bond but he was never released. He was sent from the magistrates detention to bexar county jail and then placed under ICE hold. Why does it say he was released? Did we just get cheated out of $3500?

    • admin

Alexa – No, you did not get cheated. You paid the bond for the charge that Bexar County had on him so Bexar released them from their custody but in your brother’s case another agency wanted him also. That agency placed a “hold” on him. It’s sort of like them saying, when you are done with him hold him for us because we want him too. ICE will hold a hearing. If they determine he is here legally they will release him. If you had not paid the bond and ICE decides to release him they would have then sent him back to Bexar County to take care of the charge that Bexar County wanted him for. You kept that from happening.

Hi there my brother recently got arrested from a warrant. Wats the procedure? what will happen now? Also he has car keys we would like to pick up up, are we able to go pick them up? His warrant is 15000 what else can we do if we can’t pay it?

    • admin

Rita – The car keys will be in his property. You can call the Banking department to ask about the keys. Their number is 210-335-6287. They are a 24/7 department. For his bond, you can try calling different bonds companies to see what their price would be. Some of them even have coupons in the back section of the phone book.

I have been calling both 2077532 and 2077534 for over two hours and it keeps saying the number is no longer in service or its disconnected. I found the person I was looking ofr on http://www.bexar.org/ but had some questions on a few of the short hands. Ugh are they ever going to fix the phone line problems?

    • admin

Jen – Those numbers actually are the SAPD side. Bexar County has no control over them. We’ve heard this complaint before and each time we try the numbers we get through. This time I was the one to try and immediately got through to a recording that gives options for you to pick from. We’re not sure what the problems is that some people can’t get through.

  8. Ron

When calling to get info on an inmate, was transferred to the magistrate office. I politely asked for assistance and explained I was transferred there. Women who answered was just mean. One word answers, and sarcastic. If you don’t like wrong calls, don’t work there. I was quite polite and nice to you.
Didn’t appreciate being spoken to sarcastically and like I was “bothering” you or “stupid”. Appreciate that you are employed. Wrong # or not, NO ONE deserves that kind of attitude…especially when it is YOUR JOB to answer phones.

    • admin

Ron – We understand how upset you must be but the people who answer at the Magistrate’s office belong to SAPD, not Bexar County. There is nothing the Sheriff’s office can do about them.

  9. mary

8-19-13 – My 25 yr old grandson was arrested last week. What I’m wondering is till we can get money to him for toothbrush, tooth paste, deodorant, etc. will the city at least furnish personal items that are needed till we can help?

    • admin

Mary – All basic necessity items are provided. The items that are bought from commissary are just of a better quality. Sort of like the difference between generic and name brand.

  10. shannon

Im trying to locate an inmate in Bexar Co jail. When I enter the name and DOB on the Magistrates website for some reason it doesn’t work. It just says please note the format for the DOB. Im entering it correctly…please help if possible

    • admin

Shannon – We tried it and it didn’t work for us either. We couldn’t find a phone number to report a problem. We recommend that you call Central Records at 210-335-6201. They will be able to help you.

  11. Candace

My boyfriend just got lock up this morning i was checking your magistrate search I put his name n birthday his name pop up I was wondering if that sid number is to write him if he not send to county yet please help…

    • admin

Candace – An inmate should only have one sid number. If it is listed on the Magistrate’s site then it should be the correct one but don’t send a letter until he gets to the jail. If the letter gets there before he does the letter will be returned.

  12. Candace

Yes I want to know I got my bf sid number on that the website magistrate search but I want if the sid number goes with him if they transfer to county because I want to write him but its not his sid number anymore would they aend the letters back

    • admin

Candace – Inmate numbers only apply to the facility he is in, they do not transfer. Each agency has its own number. They even call them different things. Some agencies use PID for Personal Identification. DPS uses sid also but it stands for State Identification. I’ve been told that Bexar County’s sid stands for System Identification. I’m not sure if that’s true or not.

  13. Candace

Thanks for the help I got my sid number already one more question if my boyfriend receives my letters can he write me back if he don’t have money in his account….

  14. Candace

One more question if my boyfriend doesn’t have money in his account like if I write him and he don’t have a pen or papers or stamps, envelopes can I send him some papers n like 4 stamps n like 3 envelopes….

    • admin

Candace – No. That is a safety issue. Paper can be soaked in illegal substances. Commissary has those items for sale. You can also order a package from iCare that has writing supplies.

  15. Amanda

my boyfriend just got arrested last night can I see him today or just on the visit days? like online it says the first 5 days we can see him but then it says that his last names can only get visits on Saturday and Monday… when can I see him?

  16. Roxanne

I use to go to this website to see the info on my boyfriend…However it doesn’t show me anymore. Is it because he already been there for almost a month. If so do u know a good website to find out about when is the release date & how much is his bond??

    • admin

Roxanne – If you are talking about the Jail Activity List it only has one week’s worth of information and is a mess to read. You can call Central Records at 210-335-6201 for information.

  17. Sandra

My granddaughter just came from court this morning 4/21/14.
The jail records show her being held for only 10 days. This is an error on bookings part. She has been in the Bexar county jail for 35 day as of today. How do I get this record corrected.
There was a bond paid and she was not released on that bond because of a gps not being issued. She is still in the bexar county jail. How do I get the records corrected to the correct number of days she has been in the jail?

    • admin

Jesse – We’ve had several posters ask similar questions. We suspect that in some cases the officers make up their own code. Some we think may be initials. At a guess I think this probably stands for P.R. and the ang might be the person’s initials but does that mean he got a P.R. bond or does that mean ang was the one who checked to see if he qualified for one or does it mean something completely different. Unfortunately we are not getting answers.

  18. Grace

My boyfriend has a class a criminal mischief misdemeanor he came out in a bond but jumped bond n never went to court he git arrested again n now hes in ciznty how long would he do tine in couny

  19. Jamie

My Husband was rearrested and does not have a bond in the comments on the Magistrate search I did said OUTOFCO can you tell me what that means?

    • admin

Jamie – That stands for out-of-county. It means that the warrant was issued by a county other than Bexar County and Bexar County is only holding him for that county. If he is allowed to bond out then a bond amount would be listed. If no bond is listed it is probable that the other county is intending to pick him up. You can call Central Records at 210-335-6201 to see what is showing in the computer.

    • admin

Ashley – Central Records doesn’t have notice about that until your sister’s status shows as released. She will still be there for a while longer while they finish processing.

  20. LGaeta

My brother just got arrested and charged with possession of marijuana 0-2oz . He was denied pr bond, how long will he be expected to stay in jail. He’s bond was set at $800.

    • admin

LGaeta – The judge determines the sentence within the sentencing guidelines. Call Central Records to see if any information is showing up in their computers yet. Their number is 210-335-6201.

  21. melissa

I just bonded my husband and now they said the process is gonna take longer because there is a condition on his paper work which is a cpr hold or something…what does that mean???

  22. kaylee

My cousin was arrested for a p.i how can i bail her out? Or will she just be released in the morning? She was supposedly picked up around 8pm it is now 11:30pm and she is still not in the system

    • admin

Steven – Depends on how the warrant was set up. If it gave a bond and a fine amount that means you can do either. If it gave just a bond amount you have to bond out.

  23. Roberta

What do you do when someone was arrested and gave a false address…We have a neighbor that was arrested that gave her name with our address…she has never stayed or lived here…now we have all this mail coming to our house…Do not want any of this crap coming our way….Thanks…

    • admin

Roberta – You are in a tough spot. You could try calling the Warrants department to let them know the situation and ask them to update their information but that department doesn’t seem to be very responsive. I would try anyway. Your best bet would probably be to draw a line through the name and your address, write on the envelope “wrong address, no one here by this name” and return the letters to the mailman. If the sheriff’s office starts getting them back maybe they’ll get the message.

my son was arrested for dui (I believe). He is diabetic. How can I find out if he has his insulin? Or who can I speak with to inform that he is diabetic. His blood sugar may be low and it may cause him to have some adverse reactions?

  25. lola

My cousin got arrested for failure to id.if we cant afford to bail her out what is the range of amount of time she can spend in jail?

    • admin

Lola – I believe failure to I.D. is a Class B Misdemeanor . The penalty for a Class B is not more than 180 days in a county jail and/or a fine of not more than $2,000.

  26. Suzanne

My sister was arrested as she was trying to renew her DL @ the DMV for a bad check written in 2006. She had never been arrested or in trouble before. I was made to be the cosigner for her bail but I am wondering why she wasn’t given the PRBond? Does one need to request it or how does that work? And although she is out is there anyway all of that could be changed if in fact she is eligable for it? I resented being made to be the cosigner, not my sister but the county or whomever. Just wondering why she wasn’t presented this option.

    • admin

Suzanne – We’re a little confused. No one makes you be a co-signer on a bond. Were you at a bonds company? P.R. bonds are presented as an option. Are you sure you co-signed something or maybe what you signed was a reference for her? P.R. does check references before they allow a P.R. bond. If this happened at the Magistrate then it was a P.R. bond. It’s the only kind given out to inmates. Any other bond would be through a bonds company.

  27. Mary

My son was arrested for DUI on the 19 th when I went to go bond him out they said he had a hold warrant. Judge told him that if other state didn’t pick him up in 10 days they would let him go. Today we bond him out for DUI and they said he now has to stay another 10 days ? Does anyone know how this works ?

    • admin

Mary – From what we have been told the other agency needs to make arrangements to pick him up within 10 days. After they make arrangements to come get him, if it’s not done within 10 days then he will be released. We could only get one person to tell us this. We were not able to confirm it with anyone else.

  28. Madein

My friend was picked up for DWI, and released on PR, however because of overcrowding she was sent to county jail to be released?? When will she be released, as soon as she gets there or sometime during the day???

When/How can she get her car out of impound?

    • admin

Madein – We’re kind of confused. Usually people who are going to be released immediately are released from the magistrates office. The whole purpose of that is to keep them out of the county jail because of overcrowding. Anyway, if they have the paperwork they will begin processing but the paperwork is processed in the order it is received. Once she is out she can go get her car. There is a fee.

    • admin

Steve – Their booking process takes some time. It will probably be 4 to 6 hours before they have information available.

  29. nina

Is there any one I can call to speed up the process of setting my husband’s court date??? & How can I find out if he has a court appointedlawyerr?????

    • admin

Nina – You can’t speed up the process of getting him a court date but you can find out who his attorney is. Call Central Records at 210-335-6201 to see what court the case will be assigned to. If it is listed ask them for the phone number for that court. Contact the court clerk to find out the name of the attorney who has been assigned to your husband and also ask if a court date has been set yet.

i received a letter “warrant notice” failure to appear and failed to prove insurance. adding up to $900 something… called one of the bail bonds in the same day saying nothing for amount for bond but to call the bexar coun. constable pre 3 called them i asked if im able to make payments but want me to call court house to set up payment plan. instead of calling the court i looked up certifiedpayments.net containing my invoice statement
i own to the state. but just a lil bonus im on probation. will i receive an mtr? would i still have to call the court house if im able to make payments online? as long im making payments and keep the receipt will i be liable still at anytime to be arrested? i just want to pay this off quickly so that i have less worries before my p.o. finds out about my warrant even so he/she does im sure paying along with a receipt will show for something. i just dont know where to start and this warrant notice came in today…

    • admin

Mo – Once you begin making payments the warrant should be pulled. We highly recommend that you hurry up and make payment arrangements. If you have an active warrant when you deal with any law enforcement or judicial agency you will be arrested.

  31. Mark

I have received notice from my place of employment that I have a warrant out for my arrest. I checked the municipal courts website, it was due to failure to appear. If I go to the Municipal Court to take care of the matter, will I be arrested? The tickets were traffic related.

  32. Anthony

My brother got arrested for family threat but when I looked up his name it said he was released but has a bond for 3500 what does that mean

  33. Mary

My friend is in jail…I have been trying every number in the system but can’t get any information. I checked the magistrate records and it shows he was arrested but why can’t I get any info. He’s from mexico and has no family or friends (except me) that can help. I tried calling ICE, no record. I called county jail and asked if he was there..gave name and D.O.B and the lady on phone said he was not really there!? Like, what does that mean? Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know where I can get any info?

    • admin

Kelly – You can call the warrant department at 210-335-6050. Unfortunately it seems the Sheriff’s Office has gone out of its way to make it difficult to get this information.

  34. lisa

Can anyone tell me how long after warrant from the city is issued will they come arrest you at your place of employment.

  35. ricky

I’m on a rental lease in an apartment and offered to let a “friend” stay for a while but now it’s been over a year and she has become very possessive of myself and apartment and I want her gone. She doesn’t work, pay rent or contribute to the apartment. The police have been over twice and I’ve been told there’s nothing I can do because it’s been over 30 days. She is not on lease and landlord is threatening to kick me out too. I have never had issues w/apt complex til now. What can I do??
    Thank you for reading
p.s. HER NAME’S NOT ON LEASE

    • admin

Ricky – We can’t offer legal advice, we are not lawyers. This is a civil matter. You need an attorney that deals with civil issues.

  36. Victoria

if a person is arrested for a 2nd degree felony with a 35000.00 bond will they be released or must they post some type of bond?
